Award and Conferral Ceremony – A First

Mukhanyo’s annual graduation day is in early March. Yet this year an additional ceremony – a less formal award ceremony – took place on 18 September for those students who completed their studies in June and for students completing non-accredited church-based training programmes. It was especially for some 30 students of a Zulu-based programme as well as 15 other students who completed other programmes or qualifications.
Dr Brian DeVries addressed the audience (students, family and friends) and referred to Mark 8. He challenged the students to serve God and follow Christ for which they are now equipped. ”If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me” (vs 34). For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” (vs 36). For students who received their certificates, it is only the first step in serving the Lord. The real test will only begin now, emphasised Dr DeVries.
