Rasekutuma Victor, a Bachelor of Theology graduate from Mukhanyo Theological College’s Pretoria campus, began his studies with a clear purpose: to deepen his theological understanding and grow in his faith. Encouraged by Campus Outreach, the ministry where he serves, Victor saw Mukhanyo as a place to gain both knowledge and practical skills for his work with students on campus and in his church community.
Looking back, Victor says his time at Mukhanyo went beyond academic learning, helping him integrate faith into all aspects of life. “It’s about more than just head knowledge; it’s about applying what I’ve learned in my everyday life and ministry,” he shares. His studies encouraged him to live out his faith more consistently and boldly, both in public and in private.
A highlight of Victor’s experience was participating in Mukhanyo’s January and July intensives, where students from all three campuses joined for in-depth discussions. “The classes brought together people from different backgrounds, which made for a really interesting exchange of ideas and perspectives,” he recalls. This diversity helped him develop a well-rounded understanding of faith, grounded in biblical truth but responsive to the challenges of daily life.
Balancing his studies with full-time ministry was not without its challenges. With evening classes and a busy work schedule, time management became crucial. Mukhanyo’s mentorship program provided support along the way, helping Victor stay on track and manage the demands of studying and working simultaneously. His lecturers were also a key influence, guiding him in ways that made Scripture relevant and applicable to real-life situations. “Our lecturers constantly emphasized that our studies should be more than head knowledge—they need to translate into how we live and serve,” he explains.
Victor regularly applies skills from his Mukhanyo studies in his ministry, especially exegesis, hermeneutics, and preaching. “The module on Creative Bible Teaching was particularly helpful,” he says, noting that it gave him a solid approach to teaching the Bible in a way that connects with different audiences. These skills have proven useful as he engages with university students and helps guide them in their own faith journeys.
Mukhanyo has also shaped Victor’s perspective on his role in the community. The college encourages graduates to use what they have learned to meet the spiritual needs of their communities and churches. “Mukhanyo helped me see the Gospel need around me and prepared me to step into that responsibility with humility and purpose,” he reflects.
When asked if he would recommend Mukhanyo, Victor’s response is clear: “Definitely! Mukhanyo does more than prepare you for ministry; it equips you to make a meaningful impact in your community. For anyone considering theological studies, my advice is to apply what you’re learning as you go. Don’t wait until you feel ‘fully equipped’—the experience itself is a big part of your growth.”
