Mukhanyo Theological College offers a unique and accessible way to study theology through our Local Learning Sites. These sites are designed to bring quality theological education closer to students, allowing them to study within their own communities, while still being part of an accredited academic institution.
A Local Learning Site is a physical venue, usually hosted by a church or Christian organisation, where a group of Mukhanyo students meet regularly. Instead of studying completely alone, students gather at set times to learn together, receive guidance, and support one another throughout their studies.
What studying at a Local Learning Site looks like
Students registered at a Local Learning Site follow Mukhanyo’s accredited curriculum, study guides, lecture videos, and other study materials. Learning happens through a combination of self-study, group sessions, and facilitated support.
At each Local Learning Site, a trained tutor helps guide discussions, explains difficult concepts, encourages accountability, and ensures students stay on track. The tutor does not replace lecturers but supports students as they engage with the course material.
A blend of flexibility and structure
Local Learning Sites are ideal for students who need flexibility due to work, family, or ministry commitments, but who still value structure and personal interaction. Students can remain in their communities while studying, avoiding the cost and disruption of relocating to a full-time campus.
Assessments are submitted to the Local Learning Site, assessed by qualified tutors or lecturers, and moderated according to academic standards. This means local learning students receive the same quality of education and recognised qualifications as all other Mukhanyo students.
Learning in community, growing in ministry
One of the greatest strengths of Local Learning Sites is the sense of community. Students learn alongside others who share similar callings, challenges, and ministry contexts. Discussions are grounded in real-life church and community situations, making learning deeply practical and relevant.
