Mukhanyo Theological College hosts annual Church Leaders Conference for 2024

On Saturday, 26 October, Mukhanyo Theological College welcomed about 30 church leaders from a range of church traditions to our KwaMhlanga campus for the annual Church Leaders Conference.

The event continues to be an important occasion for leaders to deepen their understanding of faithful Biblical teaching, centred around Paul’s instruction in 2 Timothy 2:15: “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly handling the word of truth.”

Dr John Span opened the day with a memorable analogy, comparing pastors to driving instructors guiding others through life’s challenges. He highlighted the importance of handling Scripture correctly, urging leaders to stay true to Biblical integrity rather than dilute the message to suit modern pressures. Dr Span encouraged attendees to safeguard their teaching and provide clear, accurate spiritual guidance.

Rev Jonas Sibanyoni emphasised that ministry is a calling to seek God’s approval above all else. Drawing on examples from the lives of Jesus and Daniel, he called on pastors to avoid the dangers of people-pleasing, challenging them to evaluate the direction they provide to their congregations.

Reflecting on the conference, Mukhanyo lecturer Jacques Malan commented, “It was a successful gathering with clear outcomes. We are committed to building on these sessions each year, equipping leaders with a grounded, Scripturally-sound approach that they can take back to their churches.”

The event concluded with a lively Q&A session, leaving participants both challenged and encouraged in their commitment to God’s word. Mukhanyo Theological College remains dedicated to supporting local church leaders in their roles within communities.
