Mukhanyo Theological College acknowledges and celebrates students whose commitment to the study of the Word and their calling to ministry stands as an example of perseverance, faith and academic integrity.
Morkel’s path to his theological degree is a clear testimony of how God’s guidance, in partnership with Mukhanyo’s structured and Scripture-based training, prepares young people to serve the church and the wider community.
From a young age, Morkel had a deep faith in Jesus Christ and grew up in the Reformed Church. “I have studied the Bible since primary school, especially the stories of the prophets and the history of God’s people,” he explains. In Grade 9, he received a clear calling to become a minister. His family and congregation supported him in this, and his calling was confirmed through the guidance of the local minister.
However, his university years brought new challenges. A serious cycling accident, the effects of Covid-19, and spiritual and emotional difficulties temporarily delayed his academic progress. “All these experiences tested my faith, but I always knew that my calling remained firm. The Lord guided me through every difficult time,” says Morkel.
Mukhanyo Theological College proved to be a decisive turning point for him. “The academic programme at Mukhanyo is thoroughly Scripture-based and not only deepened my theological knowledge, but also developed my ability to function critically, reflectively and responsibly as a future church leader,” he explains. The structured learning environment, active participation in class discussions and academic assessment enabled him to pursue his passion for ministry with authority and integrity.
In 2024, Morkel completed his degree and is currently engaged in honours studies, while remaining actively involved and providing leadership at Mukhanyo’s local learning support centre at the Centurion Reformed Church, where he also supports other students in their theological training. “Although it took longer than initially expected, the Lord’s timing aligned perfectly with my academic journey. Mukhanyo provided the guidance and support I needed to fully embrace my calling,” Morkel concludes.
Mukhanyo Theological College is proud to support students like Morkel and regards his journey as an example of how dedication, faith and academic training work together to shape future leaders in ministry.
