Bursary testimony: Amos Masilela’s journey with Mukhanyo

At Mukhanyo Theological College, many of our students would not be able to pursue their studies without the generous support of donors. The story of Amos Masilela is a moving example of how your partnership is transforming lives and shaping ministries for the future.

Amos, the eldest of four siblings, grew up in Waterval B in the Dr JS Moroka Municipality. After completing his matric in 2007, he enrolled for an Bachelor of Laws (LLB) at the University of South Africa. Unfortunately, due to financial constraints, he was unable to complete his degree and had to discontinue his studies. He then worked as an education assistant at a local primary school, where he discovered a deep passion for teaching, not only in the classroom, but also within the ministry of the Word.

“It was there that I realised my calling for teaching in the ministry,” Amos explains. “I saw a huge gap in the five-fold ministry, particularly in teaching. One of the teachers told me about Mukhanyo Theological College, and I immediately began searching for information. I applied, and within a week I had received a positive response.”

Amos is now studying for the Higher Certificate in Bible Teaching (HCBT), a qualification that is already shaping both his life and his ministry. “This programme has had such a positive impact on me. I am now able to help fellow believers by offering counselling sessions and by sharing the light of Christ with those in need.”

Amos received a bursary to enable him to continue his studies, something for which he is profoundly grateful. “Personally, I cannot find the words to express how thankful I am. It felt like Mukhanyo gave me water in the desert. Without this support, I would have been demoralised and may have abandoned my studies altogether. The bursary gave me hope and renewed strength.”

Looking ahead, Amos is determined to use his training to serve his church and community. He has a particular burden for young people, especially those who have suffered emotional or physical abuse. “Counselling and teaching are both vital in our communities. Many young people need healing through the Word of God. My hope is to equip them with the knowledge of Christ and the Holy Spirit from an early age, so that they may grow up strong in their faith.”

Amos’s gratitude to donors is heartfelt: “To the people who made my studies possible, you are a God-sent. May the Lord bless you abundantly. Without your generosity, I might have been lost, but now I am equipped to serve and to lead. I will always remember you in my prayers.”

His vision for the future is bold and inspiring. Amos dreams of building a Christian centre that will serve as both a home for the needy and a school for children, a place where the poor are fed both spiritually and physically. He longs to see churches unite under Christ, to minister to the broken, and to make disciples of all nations.

“Mukhanyo gave me light in the darkness. It is the light that dissolves the darkness. Mukhanyo is the light bearer that is capturing many nations.”

Amos’s testimony shows clearly how donor support makes a lasting difference. By providing bursaries, you are not only investing in one student – you are equipping faithful servants who will carry the gospel into their communities and beyond.

Will you partner with us to support more students like Amos? Your generosity enables them to be trained, equipped, and sent out as gospel workers who bring hope and light to many.
